'The Orange Spot Shrimp' is one of three hot spot shrimps that I use, mainly, for grayling. The other two are 'The Pink Spot Shrimp' and 'The Red Spot Shrimp'. They can all be effective in different conditions and depending on which colour that the fish tend to favour on any given day. The Pink Tag Nymph can also be tied with an orange or red tag. I use it mainly as a grayling nymph, but I have also found it to be quite effective for trout, especially when the river is carrying some colour. I hope that you like it and, if you try it, I hope that it works for you. Dressing: Hook: Sizes 12 - 16 Kamasan B175 Bead: 3.5 Gold Tungsten bead Extra weight: 1mm strip of Veniard Adhesiv...
The 'Orange Shrimp' - Fly Tying with Geoff Johnston
Переглядів 9383 роки тому
This fly, which I've always known as my 'Orange shrimp' is one of my favourite grayling bugs. After checking my fishing diary I discovered that I've been using this fly since about the year 2000, so it's managed to hold it's place in my fly box for about 20 years. It's been a very productive fly for me over the years, especially in October and November. Dressing: Hook: Sizes 10 & 12 - Kamasan B...

Post-lockdown on the river
Переглядів 6754 роки тому
The enforced break from our beloved sport was a tough one to bear for many of us 'fishaholics'. So it's been great to get back on the water and to hit some decent hatches. They haven't been prolific, but we've seen a good mix of our seasonal upwings making a show since the lockdown was relaxed. We've also seen a fair amount of Aphids, Midge, a few Beetles and some Black Gnat hitting the water -...

The Blue Winged Olive (BWO) Dun - Fly Tying with Geoff Johnston
Переглядів 19 тис.4 роки тому
The Blue winged Olive Dun is one of the dries that I employ during a hatch of BWO's on our waters. The underbody is trimmed to allow the fly to sit on the water, so that the fan-shaped mix of hackle and EP fibre wing, hopefully, creates a similar footprint to the natural. This fly can be tied in a variety of sizes and colours to mimic different species of upwings. Dressing: Hook: Kamasan B405 o...
The Klinkhamer (The Big Klink) - Fly Tying with Geoff Johnston
Переглядів 1,5 тис.4 роки тому
This is my version of the Klinkhamer, or as I like to call it 'The Big Klink' The reason I call it that is because I rarely fish in any other size than a size 10. At this size I find it a great fly when speculating in prospective areas with a dry, and it is my 'go to' fly when suspending a nymph below it to fish New Zealand dropper, Duo, Dry Dropper, Klink and Dink or whatever you may choose to...
